CAHYA MATA'S CLINKER LINE 2 TO BE AN INDUSTRY GAMECHANGER IN SARAWAK
Cahya Mata Cement Sdn Bhd ("Cahya Mata Cement"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad ("Cahya Mata" or "the Group"), is set to raise the bar for cement production and supply in Sarawak with the development of its proposed new clinker line in Mambong, Kuching.

Since its establishment in 1974, Cahya Mata Cement has been a reliable partner in supporting Sarawak's development agenda. The company has consistently supplied high-quality cement for ready-mix and precast concrete products, essential for constructing key infrastructure across the state. As the sole cement producer in Sarawak, Cahya Mata Cement recognizes its responsibility to ensure an uninterrupted supply of cement. To meet growing demand, the company has strengthened its supply chain over the years, operating 2 grinding plants in Kuching, one in Bintulu, and marine flat store terminals in Sibu and Miri. These initiatives demonstrate the company's commitment to ensuring uninterrupted supply of cement across Sarawak and supporting the state's growth.
Advancing Production Capabilities with Clinker Line 2
In November 2023, Cahya Mata Cement took a significant step forward by signing a technical consulting agreement with Sinoma Industry Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd. The partnership aims to design (and subsequently construct) a new clinker line and optimize the existing clinker production facility. This effort is in line with Cahya Mata Cement's commitment to ensuring a continuous and stable supply of clinker — a critical raw material for cement production to support Sarawak's development.
The new clinker line, known as "Clinker Line 2," will take approximately 24 months to complete. It will incorporate state-of-the-art features to enhance both environmental performance and energy efficiency. These features include a waste heat recovery system that can generate up to 6MW of power and an advanced dust filtration system that will reduce dust emissions to half of the current regulatory limit. Furthermore, Clinker Line 2 will utilize cutting-edge equipment, reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The introduction of locally available alternative raw materials and alternative fuels will further minimize the use of fossil fuels.
Boosting Local Employment and Economic Growth
During the construction phase, which is expected to last 24 months, the project will require up to 500 workers at its peak. This increase in activity will benefit the local business community, particularly in the Padawan area.

Increased Capacity to Meet Future Demand
Upon the anticipated completion of Clinker Line 2 in March 2027, Cahya Mata Cement will be able to produce an additional 6,000 metric tonnes of clinker daily. This will boost its annual clinker production capacity from 900,000 to 1.92 million metric tonnes. As a result, the company will become self-sufficient in clinker supply, eliminating the need for imports as well as improving its economies of scale. This increased capacity will enable Cahya Mata Cement to meet Sarawak's cement demand for the next 15 years, with a projected annual output of 2.4 million metric tonnes of cement.
