9 October 2021 – By nine on a Saturday morning, the firsts of the 79 blood donors at CMS’ blood donation drive held at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Blood Bank were already brimming with excitement, ready to roll up their sleeves to donate blood and save lives by replenishing the hospital’s blood supply as 60 to 70 blood bags are required by SGH for its daily use.
“Apart from the health benefits of donating blood, just knowing that someone will get the help they need through what I did today makes me happy because I feel like I have made a difference,” first-time blood donor Julianne Philip Attan smiled as she explained what encouraged her to participate in this blood donation drive. With the oldest donor at the age of 59 while the youngest at 21, CMS hopes to welcome more regular blood donors of all eligible ages in upcoming blood drives.
